Wednesday, April 11, 2012, 11:30-1:00. LOOP (DePaul Center 8011)
Friday, April 13, 2012, 1:00-2:30. LPC (Munroe Hall 115)
Led by Michael Moore (WRD) and Rana Husseini (TLA). If you've heard the buzz about e-Portfolios around campus and wonder how you might use them in your teaching, come to this workshop to learn about the pedagogical value of e-Portfolios for facilitating reflection and integrating students' learning. In particular, you will hear how they have been implemented in one program's learning-outcomes-based pedagogy during the past year, the scholarship that informs that pedagogy, and learn concrete strategies for making them work. By the end of the session, you will have a better idea of whether this teaching tool is for you. Space is limited, so RSVP online to reserve your spot.
Connecting Your Class to the “Real World”
Wednesday, May 2, 2012, 10:00-11:30. LPC (Student Center 316)
Thursday, May 3, 2012, 3:00-4:30. LOOP (DePaul Center 11013)
Led by Susan Jacobs (MALS/IDS) and Bob Rotenberg (Anthropology). We have all heard students ask, “Why do I have to take this class anyway?” or “When will I ever use this in the 'real world'?” Although students are learning skills and knowledge that will serve them in their personal and professional lives all the time, sometimes it is not as obvious to them as it is to us. In this interactive session, we will hear from faculty in the humanities and the social sciences about strategies for making those connections explicit in your courses. We will also share ideas about how to enhance student buy-in without compromising the integrity of the course’s learning goals. Space is limited, so RSVP online to reserve your spot.
Building Your Teaching Portfolio in Digication
Wednesday, May 9, 2012, 10:00-12:00. LOOP (Lewis 1308)
Friday, May 11, 2012, 10:00-12:00. LPC (SAC 240)
Led by Rana Husseini (TLA), Alex Joppie (FITS), and Ian Hall (FITS). This workshop serves as an introduction to the Teaching & Learning Certificate Program and to the Digication e-Portfolio platform. As such, it is meant to be the first workshop taken by Certificate Program participants (although it can be completed later in the sequence if necessary). Faculty will begin creating a teaching portfolio in Digication, which serves as the program's culminating project and a means of reflecting on the content-based workshops throughout. Space is limited, so RSVP online to reserve your spot.
Election 2012: A Teachable Moment
Wednesday, May 23, 2012, 2:00-3:30. LOOP(DePaul Center 11013)
Friday, May 25, 2012, 11:00-1:00. LPC (Arts & Letters 415)
Led by Zachary Cook (Political Science). It can sometimes be difficult to motivate students to see politics as directly personal. Yet elections are also valuable tools for instructors to highlight the importance of issues across multiple disciplines. This workshop will focus on how faculty members can productively engage the upcoming election in their courses, both through class discussions and more substantive course assignments. Space is limited, so RSVP online to reserve your spot.

Malick Sidibé's exuberant photographs offer a unique look at a time of political transition and cultural liberation. As Mali gained independence from France in 1960, the youth culture of music, dancing and fashion exploded in this once-conservative West African nation and Sidibé's ubiquitous lens chronicled it all. Through the use of props, posing, and a deft attention to personality, he developed a distinct style, fulfilling his clients' aspirational self-presentation and achieving international recognition for these beautiful and nuanced studies of human character.

In Sheridan's 18th century comedy of manners, deceit, and mistaken identities, two young lovers follow a misguided path to romance. When rival suitors, an overbearing father, and a busybody aunt complicate matters, only a proper duel can settle their questions of love and honor.
