Student Services

The Division of Student Affairs publishes a comprehensive Faculty Resource Guide pdf, which offers detailed information to help faculty support student learning and success. Some of the most commonly utilized resources are also listed on this page.

Alumni Sharing Knowledge (ASK)

  • Offers career advice and facilitates an alumni network

BlueStar

  • Connects faculty, advisors and students.
  • Enables instructors and advisors to send alerts if there are concerns about academic performance, “kudos” to acknowledge good performance, and referrals to additional support services.
  • Access BlueStar through Campus Connect: Main Menu > Self-Service > BlueStar.

Career Center

  • Helps students explore career options, improve interview and resume-writing skills, and find internships and jobs.
  • Faculty can request an in-class presentation or workshop from Career Center staff.
  • Advises faculty in the development and teaching of academic internship and career development courses through the University Internship Program.

Center for Intercultural Programs (CIP)

  • Promotes artistic expression and intellectual inquiry that challenges students to explore all aspects of their identity.
  • Offers opportunities for students to become leaders in facilitating education on diversity and social justice among their peers.
  • Provides integrative education experiences around sociocultural identity development, social justice, and the interplay of power and identity.

Center for Students with Disabilities

  • Provides support for DePaul students with documented disabilities.
  • Assists students with academic accommodations, books on tape, readers, adaptive equipment and physical access.
  • Available to faculty for assistance with classroom accommodations for students with disabilities.

Dean of Students Office

  • Advocates for students who are undergoing medical and/or personal crises as well as difficulty in resolving problems or making the right connections with faculty, staff, and university processes and services.
  • Assists students, staff and faculty with student conduct concerns, including incident reporting, adjudicating of our Code of Student Responsibility, and concerns related to our university-wide Sexual and Relationship Violence Prevention and Response policy
  • Manages academic processes including absence notification and late withdrawal policies for students and communicates with faculty about these processes.

Learning Commons

LGBTQA Student Services

  • Promotes, fosters, and supports a campus environment that is inclusive of people from all sexualities and gender identities.
  • Offers a range of services, educational programs and community building events that reflect the needs and interests of the diverse LGBTQA communities at DePaul.

Office of Academic Advising Support (OAAS)

  • Empowers students to make academic choices that incorporate their individual interests, values, and skills.
  • Provides holistic advising and major exploration services to undeclared and exploratory students.
  • Advises newly admitted transfer students as they transition to DePaul.

Office for International Students and Scholars (OISS)

  • Provides advising to international students and scholars on immigration rules and regulations, cultural adjustment, document requests including letters to verify legal status, letters to assist with opening a bank account or rent an apartment, and employment.

International Student Experience Exchange (ISEE) Peer Mentor Program

  • A bridge program designed to connect committed student mentors with incoming international students to improve their academic achievement, social competence, and to facilitate smooth adjustment into the DePaul community.

Office of Multicultural Student Success (OMSS)

  • A key partner in DePaul University’s efforts to admit, retain, and successfully graduate low-income college students, first generation college students, and students of color.

Men of Color Initiative (MOC)

  • An initiative that seeks to support first-generation and/or low-income male students of color in their academic endeavors at DePaul University.

Providing Access Through Holistic Support (PATHS)

  • A career-focused program offered to rising sophomores at DePaul University.
  • Participants are provided the opportunity to engage with staff to have one-on-one conversations focused on career discernment, enroll in a two-credit career exploration and discernment course, attend career field trips, and receive weekly e-newsletters informing students about career exploration activities offered on campus.

Students Together Are Reaching Success (STARS)

  • A career-focused program offered to rising sophomores at DePaul University.
  • Participants are provided the opportunity to engage with staff to have one-on-one conversations focused on career discernment, enroll in a two-credit career exploration and discernment course, attend career field trips, and receive weekly e-newsletters informing students about career exploration activities offered on campus.

Women Empowered(WE)

  • A year-long program designed to support and develop undergraduate women of color. Offers bi-weekly workshops to develop life skills and explore the experiences and perspectives of women of color.

Office of Student Employment

  • Assists students in finding on-campus employment and manages job listings via the Campus Job Board
  • Built on a “ladder of employment” concept, students gain valuable workplace skills while moving up into increasingly demanding positions
  • Coaches and trains faculty and staff supervisors in mentoring and developing students’ skills and workplace readiness

Office of Student Involvement

  • Fosters student learning and success by providing opportunities for engagement through a wide variety of campus activities and organizations, holistic and intentional advising of student leaders, and the development of purposeful and mutually beneficial partnerships across the university and the City of Chicago.
  • Oversees registered student organizations and fraternity/sorority life
  • Mentors many large student organizations including: DePaul Activities Board, DemonTHON, Student Government Association, Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, Panhellenic Council, and the Student Activity Fee Board.

Scholarships for International & Post-Graduate Study

  • Assists students in obtaining external scholarships by helping them select the right program, better understand the application process, and improve their application materials.

Science and Math Learning Center

  • Provides currently enrolled DePaul students with free tutoring and academic support in chemistry, mathematical sciences, physics and psychology (for statistics).

Steans Center

  • Provides an academic bridge between the University and community that supports student learning, community development, and faculty teaching and scholarship.
  • Steans’ Egan Office for Urban Education & Community Partnerships (UECP) serves to further faculty and student engagement with public agencies and community-based organizations and schools.
  • Provides paid service learning opportunities for students.

Student Leadership Institute

  • Provides leadership education and development through leadership seminars, the Leadership Competencies Certificate, our annual Winter Leadership Conference, and customized leadership experiences for university organizations, classes, and departments.
  • Provides StrengthsQuest workshops for groups, classes, and organizations.
  • Promotes socially responsible leadership and maintains a library of leadership resources.
  • Assists students with voter registration

Study Abroad Program

  • Provides DePaul students with a diversity of education abroad offerings, ranging in academic discipline, program type, cross-cultural engagement, cross-cultural engagement, duration, and cost.
  • Offers Study Abroad 101 and walk-in advising.

Supplemental Instruction

  • Helps students successfully complete historically difficult classes through peer-assisted study sessions.
  • Students who attend study sessions help each other review notes, predict test questions, discuss readings, and develop organizational strategies.

Technology Training

  • Media Production & Training (MPT) provides technology training for students, including group training, online training, and one-on-one training assistance.
  • Provides resources for students on using technology, including access to Lynda.com

TRIO at DePaul

  • Provides advising, academic assistance, mentoring, and career-related services to eligible first-generation and low-income undergraduates at DePaul.
  • Built on effective principles of student success, including holistic advising, essential learning strategies, and engagement with the DePaul community.

Tutoring by school or department

  • Many schools and departments offer their own tutoring services, which are almost always available free to DePaul students.

The Collaborative for Multilingual Writing and Research

  • Provides tutoring, conversation partner appointments, and language-related workshops for DePaul’s multilingual writing community.
  • Organizes informal social gatherings including a Book Club, Conversation & Culture, English Cafe, and quarterly cultural excursions to Chicago neighborhoods.
  • Provides a publishing opportunity for students who are invited to submit work to the yearly e-magazine Global Voices.

Writing Center

  • Peer writing tutors work with writers on many kinds of projects, from research papers and lab reports to Master’s theses and personal writing.

Writing Fellows

  • Peer writing tutors work with the same set of writers from a particular course for an entire quarter, coaching them through the revision process on two of their papers.

University Counseling Services

  • Offers affordable consultation, short-term individual and group counseling, and referrals to community resources.
  • Assists students in defining and accomplishing personal and academic goals

University Libraries

  • Librarians and peer research tutors teach students to be flexible and persistent in developing successful strategies in identifying and using a range of resources to gather data and information, and document what they find.
  • Librarians and peer research tutors work with student researchers and scholars one-on-one over instant message, email, and in-person on a drop-in or appointment basis.
  • Librarians work with faculty to develop and provide information literacy and research instruction related to course assignments.
  • The Library provides a range of print, digital and special collections in a variety of spaces designed to support collaboration and community engagement.

Vincentian Community Service Office

  • Provides opportunities for students to participate in weekly community service and service learning opportunities.
  • Offers domestic and international service immersion trips during spring and winter break periods.
  • Promotes leadership within the DePaul and Chicago community.

Women’s Center

  • Established to provide a physically and psychologically supportive environment for women including students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
  • Programming designed to enhance and promote the development and creativity of women.
