Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

The scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) is a growing discipline dedicated to taking teaching and learning as serious intellectual work. A key organization is the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. A good introduction to SoTL can be found in “The Scholarship of Teaching: What’s the Problem?” by Randy Bass of Georgetown.

  • Open Educational Resources Blogs. Aggregator of blogs discussing open educational resources (OER) which are teaching, learning and research resources that reside in the public domain or have been released under an intellectual property license that permits their free use or re-purposing by others.
  • University Diaries. Margaret Soltan, an English professor at George Washington University, writes about her university experience.
  • Thinking about College Teaching. Based on his 35 years of teaching in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Tom Bowers writes his thoughts and experiences on various aspects of teaching.
