Get Teaching Feedback

In addition to the formal teaching evaluations completed by students at the end of the quarter, there are numerous ways to gather feedback from your students and your peers about the course.

End-of-quarter teaching evaluations (student ratings)

Gathering feedback before the quarter ends

  • Gathering in-class feedback (Vanderbilt's Center for Teaching)
    - Download sample forms
    - Offers pros and cons of different methods for gathering feedback in class
  • Fast feedback (From the hard copy book Tools for Teaching by Barbara Gross Davis)
  • Creating an online survey to gather student feedback
    - You can gather information at mid-quarter (or at several points in the quarter) to track improvement.
    - If low response rates are a concern, consider providing a motive for students to complete the survey.
    - Find instructions on creating surveys on Blackboard or Quickdata
  • Small Group Instructional Diagnosis (SGID)
Description of SGID process (University of Texas)
    - Contact your department or program chair to learn if there is a SGID process in place
Contact TLA if your department is interested in starting a SGID program
  • Peer evaluation of teaching
